About Thousand Oaks
Incorporated in 1964 and fondly referred to as "T.O." by the locals, Thousand Oaks is a master-planned community at its best – with city services which other communities only dream about such as a city-owned library, teen center, senior center, cultural center, quality infrastructure, and almost 15,000 acres of natural open space. Another source of pride in this unique community is the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Opened in 1994, this jewel of cultural arts has become a beacon for the region, featuring world-class entertainment, musicals, concerts, children’s shows, ballets, and much more. Thousand Oaks, a family-oriented community of 128,000, is home to excellent schools, outstanding parks, a myriad of shopping and dining opportunities, as well as major employment centers. |
Other Cities Nearby
Another old saying has to do with the company you keep, and if that's the case, Thousand Oaks is in very good company indeed and enjoys several excellent neighbors in either direction. Nearby municipalities include the upscale communities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas and Westlake Village – all offering an assortment of employment and cultural opportunities, dining, shopping, fun outdoor festivals and entertainment. |
Agoura Hills
In the early 1920s, after Paramount Studios purchased a ranch in the neighborhood, the community became known briefly as "Picture City" and the motion picture industry continued a long association with the area. In 1928, a group of residents formed a Chamber of Commerce which, as one of its first actions, asked to have a permanent post office established in the community. One of the area's more colorful early landowners had been a man by the name of Pierre Agoure. Though French by birth and a shepherd in his youth, he favored Spanish costumes and adopted the moniker Don Pedro Agoure. Incorporated in 1982, Agoura Hills is home to approximately 22,000 residents and, according to 2007 census data, has a median household income of $108,862. Today, this thriving upscale community of manicured streets makes a very good neighbor for nearby neighbor "T.O.". |
Calabasas
Calabasas is proud of its unique name (from the Spanish "calabazas") and every October, the city hosts a "Pumpkin Festival" to celebrate fall, the local wares and talents of Calabasas merchants, and of course, the pumpkin for which the colorful city was named.
The City's official logo, depicting the red-tailed hawk flying over the Santa Monica Mountains, symbolizes a commitment to preserving the community's natural beauty and semi-rural quality. While visiting Calabasas, take a stroll through historic Old Town or a tour of Leonis Adobe which dates from 1844 and is one of the oldest buildings in the greater LA area. Calabasas was incorporated in 1991 and is now home to approximately 23,000 residents with a median household income of $104,935.

Westlake Village
Westlake Village is a unique, master-planned community located in Los Angeles County and bordering the City of Thousand Oaks and Ventura County to the east. Development of the lakeside community began in 1966 by the American Hawaiian Steamship Company. With a total land area of 5.62 square miles, the community supports a population of 8,867. Westlake Village is known for its affluence and secluded character, and is considered one of the wealthiest communities in the Greater Los Angeles Area.
Like neighboring Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and Thousand Oaks, its mix of safe streets, good schools, picturesque hillsides, hiking, and equestrian trails attract residents seeking serenity, above average real estate values, and a commuter-friendly location.
